Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, the Director General of Smart Dubai, claims that city is ready to set itself as a blockchain and digital currency hub that might turn into a smart city with complete blockchain integration within a few years.
Smart Dubai are responsible for the Global Blockchain Challenge, which is a blockchain-focused competition established for discovering the most creative blockchain projects from all over the globe to incentivize them to move their operations to Dubai.
Gathering some of the freshest and most creative blockchain projects in Dubai is a part of the larger framework dubbed the Dubai Blockchain Strategy 2020.
The initiative was originally announced by Smart Dubai and the Dubai Future Foundation previously this year and is set to turn Dubai into the first city to be powered entirely by blockchain technology by 2020.
The following stage of the Global Blockchain Challenge will happen at the Future Blockchain Summit, which is scheduled for April 2-3, at the Dubai World Trade Center. The contest is a joint cooperation of Smart Dubai and Dubai Future Accelerators, that is a campaign of the Dubai Future Foundation.
Successful blockchain-focused projects that complete the pre-stages of the contest will receive invitations to training events in Dubai with the Dubai Future Accelerators, and also will get an introduction to the culture of UAE. Three contest winners will also have the chance to trade and introduce their products and services in Dubai. The first place will obtain 20,000 USD in cash, the second will win 15,000 USD, and the third – 10,000 USD accordingly.
